Physical Feedback Guest Post: "Merry Box" by Kuro Tengu

This week Nicole is on break for Christmas, so enjoy this guest post by DC Kurtz, who can be followed here.

You can read Merry Box here
A common thread among people who watch Neon Genesis Evangelion for the first time is "Why don't these people just go to therapy?" That's not a bad question, but I think there's a better one: why don't they just fuck?

I mean come on: Evangelion is dripping with sexual tension, even on a surface level symbolic analysis. The imagery of penetration is present in virtually every single episode: The insertion of the entry plug requires penetrating a hole in the back of the Eva's neck and defeating an Angel relies on penetrating its AT field, which is referred to as "the light of the soul" and is intrinsically tied to the individual ego. Now let’s go a little deeper, past the levels of Freud, and we see that NGE goes above and beyond into the realm of Georges Bataille. See, Bataille posits that during penetrative sex, the participating individuals surrender their individuality and are temporarily continuously linked together in a shared continuum. The individual is a part of something greater than himself and feels spiritually stimulated in addition to physically pleasured. (Wilhelm Reich talks about this as well). Instrumentality involves the mass dissolution of human AT fields to unite mankind in a perfect blissful experience. Do you see where I'm going with this yet? Everyone in Evangelion is just a good fuck or two away from emotional stability. And I feel like that's what makes Kuro Tengu's alternate continuity of Evangelion work so well as a lighthearted comedy.

Yes, that's right, an Evangelion comedy.

Do not adjust your sets, people, this is real.

Anyway since it's Christmas and all, let's look at the first Kuro Tengu doujin I read and still one of my favorites, MERRY BOX. MERRY BOX is the continuation of a long-running series of doujins that started with YAMMY? where Shinji and Asuka are in a generally stable and consensual sexual relationship. Beyond that there's not much you need to know aside from the fact that they get roped into wacky hijinks that usually lead to them fucking. Most of the plot involving NERV, SEELE, instrumentality, and even the angels are all usually left in the background. This is more of an erotic slice-of-life series than a serious NGE doujinshi.

Christmas is coming and Asuka has no idea what to get Shinji as a gift. She comes across Ritsuko, frustrated about having a bunch of cardboard boxes left over from new fixtures for the science department and nothing to do with them. But Asuka knows: smash cut to Christmas Eve and Shinji comes home to find a cardboard box on a handcart outside his door. He takes it in to open it and SURPRISE! It's Asuka, in suitably Christmas-y lingerie!
Even *I* think Asuka is cute here and I’m a diehard ShinjixKaworu guy
It's worth noting that apparently (and I learned this through this doujin) Christmas is a romantic/erotic holiday in Japan, similar to Valentine's day in the US. So the sexualization of Christmas, something still vaguely taboo in the US despite all the suggestive carols, isn't really mentioned in the doujin.

Getting back on track, this is where we see that a sexual relationship has been good for Shinji: his first reaction is to push back against Asuka and dismiss her for being cheap rather than immediately give in.
So much for “I mustn’t run away,” huh?
He's actually standing up for himself! But Asuka is still headstrong and in charge, so she gives Shinji his real present: a delightfully skimpy crotcheless bikini bottom with a cute little bow above his exposed and erect cock. This is why I enjoy Eva doujins so much, because it's sadly uncommon for hentai to feature guys who are just as cute as the girls they're fucking. But the Tengu series really does have something for everyone!

Anyway, Asuka reveals her panties are crotchless as well, and the predictable ensues. We get a page of fingering, a page and a half of cunnilingus, three and a half pages of fellatio, and then six pages of romantic and vaguely wholesome missionary-position sex culminating in Shinji quickly pulling out and blowing his load on Asuka's face then apologizing for making such a mess. Okay, so even if he's a little more confident, he's still the effete little twink we all know and (hopefully by now) love.

This is a good point to talk about the art in MERRY BOX: In a previous doujin Tengu revealed they draw their comics in mechanical pencil, and it shows. Despite the art being very well-done and on-model for the Evangelion series, the exclusively pencil art gives the doujin a charming low-fi indie feel to it. The faces are probably the best part, conforming to the style of Evangelion while still being incredibly expressive in their eroticism. The worst part is probably Shinji's cock: Even though it's pixilated for legal reasons it looks less like a real human penis and more like a dildo Shinji has strapped on to his crotch. Not a dealbreaker, but the only thing that really breaks the immersion.

Back to the story, we see that the prior sequence was just a daydream of Asuka's, who eagerly sits in the box on the handcart, looking for someone to push her to Shinji's room. She demands a passing-by Rei does so, and makes the mistake of verbally abusing Rei as she's carted off. Rather than take the bullying lying down, Rei gets one over on Asuka by taking her into Gendo Ikari's office under the guise of dropping off some junk from her locker. Asuka pokes a hole in the box, sees Gendo's distintive face looking back at her, and screams in a really hilarious punchline to the main story.

Rather than leave it at there though, Tengu continues to look at Christmas for the rest of NERV: Misato decides to steal Asuka's idea, and pops out of a box in Kaji's apartment in what looks like a race queen outfit with a little umbrella. She comes on to Kaji strong, and so we're treated to a bonus half page of oral and full-spread of girl-on-top penetrative sex. But this is ultimately revealed to be a fantasy of Misato, who once again demands Rei cart her to Kaji only to be carted into Gendo's office as well, with Rei saying it's "just expired food". Harsh!

Finally, a swimsuit-clad Maya presents her beloved Ritsuko with a vibrating double-dildo for Christmas. Ritsuko agrees to use it with her, after Maya spins around three times and says "cocks" (a reference to the hilarious NERV's Longest Day, a previous iteration in the series).

I’m sure someone will find this crop useful somehow
We get a panel of the two engaging in girl-on-top double-penetrative sex before the revelation that this too is a fantasy of Maya's, who needs someone to take her to Ritsuko. The doujin ends with her calling over Rei, with the inevitable conclusion presented in postscript.

Overall, MERRY BOX isn't really the strongest entry in Kuro Tengu's series. It's funny and upbeat, but it has the problem where all the sex is confined to dream sequences, so no one actually fucks at all! Regardless, it still does an excellent job in demonstrating the series’s thesis: everyone in Evangelion should just take a load off by blowing a load. Asuka is rude and bitchy, but not genuinely abusive. Shinji is still meek and mild-mannered, but not a human doormat. Misato is horny and hedonistic, but not self-destructive. Maya is still a quiet wallflower with a major crush on her superior, but is not too paralyzed to pursue it. Even Rei has gone from dead to deadpan! Everyone is just a little less on edge now that they're fucking on the regular. Much like the art, this is a great alternate interpretation of the original material that respects the source, albeit with a few small hiccups. It's a weak part of what's an otherwise excellent series, and I'm giving this one a 4 out of 5.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good fuck!

Physical Feedback: "VictimGirls R: Molestation Eradication Campaign" by Asanagi

Content warning: molestation, rape, sexual violence Last week I spoke pretty positively about one of Asanagi's VictimGirls doujins, and this week I thought it might be interesting to provide a counterpoint with an entry in the series which I find it difficult to enjoy, primarily on moral and cultural grounds. VictimGirls 21 took place in a clearly fantastical setting and involved the use of magical garments and mind control, which made it very easy to compartmentalize the morality of the scenario and simply to project onto whatever participant most appealed to your desires; VictimGirls R: Molestation Eradication Campaign , however, takes a... different approach. The book portrays a feminist movement against molestation in which young girls appoint themselves as unofficial anti-molestation activists and publicly call out molesters on trains. Said movement is almost immediately revealed to be comprise primarily of self-serving, sadistic, or suggestible girls partaking in spurious

Physical Feedback: Hot Shit High Chapter 1

Hot Shit High Chapter 1 can be read here . It's time to introduce another character who will surely be making repeat appearances over the course of this series: Erotibot . A western porn artist who takes stylistic influence from both live-action western pornography and japanese h-doujinshi, Erotibot made a huge impression on me with the first work of his that I saw: Hot Shit High. The setting is a loving pastiche of exaggerated americana; a high school where the cheerleaders are so cartoonishly promiscuous as to have no qualms removing their panties in the hallway, the jocks are utter pigheaded oafs who maintain social standing through intimidation and threats of gun violence, and should a trigger be pulled in between classes, a teacher will burst out of the nearest classroom, blazing away with a tommy gun and exclaiming "NO SHOOTING IN THE HALL!" I wasn't kidding Our story focuses on Marvin, a lame-ass nerd who the head cheerleader Sharlene has set her si

Physical Feedback: "VictimGirls 21 - Livestock: Happy End" by Asanagi

Content warning: rape, bestiality, degradation, fantasy racism The artist Asanagi, publishing h-doujins through the group Fatalpulse, has acquired something of a reputation on the portions of the english-speaking internet that read eastern pornography, and for good reason; they make masterfully-crafted comics in which absolutely awful things happen to the "victim girls" mentioned in the title of their longest-running series, and for a lot of people this is understandably off-putting. That said, a lot of people tend to overlook the nuance of how this is presented; it's generally not just straight up misery porn, at least not the way it's often handled. Usually the situation is presented as something the "victim" actually likes quite a lot, and simply didn't want to admit, generally because of societal factors. Now don't misunderstand, obviously the scenarios portrayed in these works would be absolutely immoral in a real-world setting; "Sh
